The Krakow Declaration on Iodine

On Wednesday 18th April, scientists from EUthyroid, supported by several stakeholder organisations, will meet at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland to present the Krakow Declaration on Iodine and call on European policy-makers to support measures to eliminate iodine deficiency.

Iodine is an essential micronutrient required for the production of thyroid hormones and critical for children’s brain development. Researchers from the EUthyroid consortium are increasingly concerned about the deteriorating commitment of European policymakers to addressing iodine deficiency. With the Krakow Declaration on Iodine EUthyroid will call on policymakers, public health officials and scientists to ensure that effective strategies to prevent IDD are implemented across Europe.
